In this Mokra Gora and Drina tour, we combine visits to the historic village of Mokra Gora, renowned for the Šargan Eight Train Ride and the iconic House on the Drina River, featured in countless postcards and travel guides. Whether you depart from Zlatibor or Užice, we’ll make an important stop at either the Rača Monastery or the Kadinjača War Memorial.

• Departure from Zlatibor: Your first stop is the Rača medieval monastery (13th century), nestled at the foot of Tara Mountain. This secluded complex was once the heart of literacy and learning during the Ottoman invasion of the Balkans.

• Departure from Užice: You’ll first visit the Kadinjača War Memorial (built in 1979), honoring the heroes who defended the short-lived Republic of Užice in World War II.

The journey continues to Mokra Gora village, which gained fame after the restoration of the narrow-gauge Šargan Eight railway and when filmmaker Emir Kusturica transformed the area into the ethno-village Drvengrad, where he resides permanently. You’ll explore the original train station, as well as several lesser-known historical sites tied to the old railroad line.

The tour concludes at Drvengrad – the Wooden Town of Emir Kusturica, showcasing the unique Tara Mountain architecture: clusters of small wooden houses perched atop a hill, offering breathtaking panoramic views of this stunning region.
