Join us on the Ovčar-Kablar Gorge Hike, an unforgettable journey through one of Western Serbia’s most stunning natural and spiritual landscapes. Nicknamed the “Serbian Mount Athos,” this gorge is home to over 30 monasteries built since the 14th century—an area where history, nature, and tradition blend in perfect harmony.
Our hike begins by following scenic local trails that wind along the West Morava River, surrounded by lush forests and towering cliffs. Along the way, we visit two important monastic sites. The first is the Monastery of St. Nicholas (Nikolje), whose exact age is unknown, but is mentioned in 15th-century records and in icons preserved at the National Museum in Belgrade. This monastery once housed over 300 nuns, making it a spiritual and cultural hub of the region.
Further along, we stop at the Preobraženje Monastery, founded in 1525, where visitors can experience the peaceful rhythm of monastic life nestled in the forested slopes of the gorge.
The hike culminates at the dramatic Kablar Viewpoint, perched high above the canyon. From this spectacular vantage point, you’ll enjoy unobstructed views of the meandering West Morava River, surrounded by rolling hills and endless sky—a perfect reward after a nature-filled ascent.
For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the viewpoint is also reachable by vehicle, allowing all visitors to enjoy the beauty of this landmark regardless of hiking ability.
